AGROALNEXT Project: Development of Precision Livestock Farming Technologies
- Type Project
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Extremadura
- Main source of financing NextGenerationEU
- Project website Web del Proyecto
Description
Development of Precision Livestock technologies for the digitization of extensive livestock farming in order to efficiently and sustainably monitor its farms (automation in the collection, storage and processing of data and the use of ICTs to optimize the traceability of the food chain)
Contextual description
Smart specialization through precision livestock farming technologies is an increasingly widespread strategy on farms and is being actively promoted in the European Union. This project aims to develop a series of devices to facilitate some of the routine tasks on extensive pig farms, as well as an animal tracking system using LoRaWAN networks and nodes to replace the currently available GPS devices, which have had limited success with Iberian pigs.
Results
High acceptance, interest, and participation from researchers. Training in digitization. Application of the low-cost wireless technology LoRaWAN: Installation of antennas and sensors. Platform setup and demonstration on research plots. Visualization, processing, and development of alerts based on data collected by the sensors. Integration into research projects.
