Description
The project designs a prototype smart nest box for hens from Murcia, which allows for individual egg laying to be recorded using RFID, egg weighing, and marking. It includes bird identification, egg traceability, and data processing on low-cost platforms.
Contextual description
The plan is to develop an affordable nesting box that identifies the laying hen and automatically marks each egg using RFID technology. IoT solutions will be integrated to record data, analyze routines, and promote animal welfare in outdoor rearing environments, fostering sustainability and genetic biodiversity.
Results
A nest box for two hens has been designed and tested with RFID detection and laser marking of the eggs to identify the hen. Tests have been carried out with different marking codes (mini QR and text). Data on entries and exits to nest boxes and egg laying are recorded.
