Description
GENIAL_RABBIT links heat stress to body temperature, microbiota, and sperm quality
Contextual description
In livestock breeding, maternal lines are composed of animals selected for litter size. This project involves two maternal lines that differ in longevity, selected at the Universitat Politècnica de València, and two lines selected at the UMH for constant and variable litter sizes; this is known as divergent selection for litter size variability. These lines differ in resilience, that is, in their ability to adapt to adverse conditions. This project will test the capacity of these four maternal lines to adapt to the heat stress caused by climate change.
Results
Rabbit lines resistant to heat stress have been developed through genetic selection and feeding strategies with feed enriched with postbiotics, improving welfare, sustainability and productive efficiency in rabbit farming.
