AGROALNEXT Project: Agronomic optimization of the use of reclaimed water in sustainable production systems

  • Type Project
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Murcia, Región de
  • Main source of financing NextGenerationEU
  • Project website Web del Proyecto
Description
The project promotes the reuse of treated wastewater in agriculture within a circular economy, evaluating its agronomic quality, necessary treatments, and proper management. It aims for sustainable use, optimizing nutrients and controlling risks associated with its salt and contaminant content.
Results
There is a direct relationship between the quality of reclaimed water used for irrigation and the absorption of contaminants by the soil-plant system. Agroclimatic growing conditions have a significant impact on the absorption of pharmaceuticals by different parts of the plant. The risks associated with consuming crops irrigated with reclaimed water depend on factors such as the synergistic effects of contaminants, the type of crops, and the potential formation of byproducts or transformation products.
