AGROALNEXT ETERNALGLASS Project: Development of coating and scaling strategies on glass containers for the protection of food products against degradation caused by light

  • Type Project
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Navarra, Comunidad Foral de
  • Main source of financing NextGenerationEU

Description
The project aims to develop transparent and colorless coatings for glass containers that filter UVA radiation, protecting agri-food products such as wines and oils without altering their appearance, improving their preservation and shelf life through scalable sol-gel technology
Results
Development of a coating with the desired optical properties: minimal color variation on the bottle (slight matting) and 80% UVA protection. Automated prototype for applying the coating to the bottle using electrostatic spraying. Preliminary results indicate that, after 30 hours, the coating provides 10% photoprotection of anthocyanins (polyphenols that impart a reddish color) in rosé wines. Final photoprotection tests on food products are pending.
