On November 28, 2025 , the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineering of the University of Seville will host the technical conference “Innovation applied in the processing tomato: efficiency, sustainability and profitability” , organized by the POMODORO Supra-regional Operational Group .

This initiative is part of the POMODORO Community of Practice , a collaborative space where farmers, technicians, researchers and companies share knowledge and experiences to promote a more advanced, sustainable and profitable production of industrial tomatoes.

Event Objectives

The event aims to highlight technological innovation and knowledge transfer as drivers of competitiveness in the sector. Throughout the meeting, participants will address current challenges in the industrial tomato sector, sustainability strategies, and the opportunities offered by digitalization, efficient irrigation, and automation.

In addition, the main results and advances of GO POMODORO will be presented, highlighting solutions in agronomic management, irrigation scheduling, production monitoring and application of emerging technologies such as drones or remote sensing.

09:00 – 09:30 | Reception and registration
Block I. Advanced and sustainable production

  • Institutional welcome by Luis Pérez Urrestarazu (ETSIA Sevilla).
  • Interventions by Juan José Alarcón (CEBAS-CSIC) and Juan Metidieri (APAG Extremadura ASAJA).

Block II. Strategies and tools to improve the value chain

  • Presentations by Concepción Mira (TEPRO) , Teresa Munuera (AZUD) and Eduardo Recuero (HIDA Alimentación) , followed by open debate.

Block III. Transfer of technological advances to the agricultural sector

  • Presentations by Pedro A. Nortes and Gregorio Egea (CEBAS-CSIC and Univ. Sevilla), Luis Rodríguez Jurado (Agrosap/Agroplanning) and Luis Sánchez Fernández (Univ. Sevilla), focused on resource efficiency, monitoring and drones.

The day will conclude with a final discussion and closing remarks.

The GO POMODORO is made up of APAG Extremadura ASAJA, CEBAS-CSIC, AZUD, TEPRO Consultores Agrícolas, TEPRO Extremadura, HIDA Alimentación and EVERGRANT , and is financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) within the framework of the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027 .
