- Type Operational group
- Execution 2018
- Assigned Budget 5.792.221,00 €
- Scope Supraautonómico
- Autonomous community Asturias, Principado de; Galicia; País Vasco
- Main source of financing PEPAC 2014-2020
Description
Atlantic vineyards share common problems:
- smallholding;
- High rainfall and mild temperatures, which influence the need to increase phytosanitary treatments, especially fungicides;
- rugged orography that favors erosion;
- Excessive dependence on the use of copper, especially in ecological models, with problems of use limitations and soil contamination;
- winegrowers with a high average age, with greater difficulty in applying new sustainable control techniques;
- In general, the conditions of Atlantic wine-growing farms make it more difficult to adopt the changes required by increasingly restrictive legislation on the use of phytosanitary products.
Objectives
- Achieving sustainable viticulture in the Atlantic vineyard by reducing the use of pesticides, training the sector in calibrating application equipment, and using plant cover to counteract erosion, improve biological activity and soil fertility, while reducing or eliminating herbicides.
Results
- Identification of the most effective alternative products and their application by a large number of winegrowers, as well as an increase in the number of winegrowers who correctly calibrate their equipment.
- Determining the most suitable plant cover for our climate conditions and significantly increasing the number of vineyards with plant cover.
- Drafting a best practices manual for the Atlantic vineyard and disseminating the results among industry stakeholders.
