Description

Facilitate interoperability and intelligent carbon footprint assessment between farmers and wineries to contribute to climate change mitigation in the wine sector.

The VID-EXPERT tool, designed and developed by the VID-EXPERT Operational Group, is an intelligent carbon footprint diagnostic system that also makes recommendations on the most efficient mitigation measures to adopt in vineyards, offering continuous improvement to the organizations that use it without the need for external resources.

Description of activities

VID-EXPERT has produced a final results video and presented the project at several international wine industry fairs (e.g., ENOFORUM, OIV CONGRESS, etc.). At these events, the importance of standardizing criteria when calculating the carbon footprint throughout the grape and wine production process was highlighted. VID-EXPERT can also help tool users develop mitigation plans and facilitate the acquisition and renewal of the "Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection" certification, a benchmark for sustainability for wineries in Spain.

Objectives

The overall objective of VID-EXPERT is to increase knowledge and facilitate intelligent carbon footprint assessments among farmers and wineries to contribute to climate change mitigation in the wine sector. VID-EXPERT seeks to provide the wine sector with a smart and interoperable digital tool for analyzing the state of the industry and recommending actions that facilitate decision-making related to mitigating the effects of climate change in the sector.

Digital data and knowledge model for technical and scientific environmental impact studies in vineyards and wineries.
Intelligent information system for generating status analysis results and environmental impact mitigation recommendations.
Analysis of the status of the WfCP certificate and proposal for digital improvements.
