Description

“AgroFoodHub: Feeding people, managing territories” aims to create a Supra-regional Operational Group whose objective is to develop a prototype of a multi-agent collaborative organizational model to improve the processing, distribution, and marketing of food from small farms (mostly family-run) located in peri-urban agricultural areas, as well as from new agri-food entrepreneurs.

This project was selected in the 2018 call for proposals and was submeasured as part of the 2014-2020 National Rural Development Program, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment. Visits to several European Food Hubs are planned to learn firsthand about the existing experiences that will enhance our project. Various presentations and outreach activities have been organized to raise awareness of the AgroFoodHub project in the region and among the stakeholders involved. The project will conclude with a workshop in Guadalhorce, attended by representatives from several national initiatives to further develop AgroFoodHub.

Objectives

The Task Force aims to develop a prototype of AgroFoodHub, a tool to promote collaborative and innovative solutions for managing resources, services, and logistics, to strengthen and diversify the peri-urban agri-food system economy. It is based on an in-depth study of peri-urban agri-food system stakeholders in three different cities in three Autonomous Communities: Madrid, Andalusia, and Catalonia, through interviews with producers, retailers, and catering professionals. Along with the interviews, three territorial diagnoses are conducted, one per Autonomous Community.

Results

In addition to the surveys and territorial diagnoses carried out by each project partner, the Innovation Agent will draft the innovative project that will gather the acquired knowledge and lay the foundations for the launch and development of the Supra-autonomous Operational Group.
