Operational Group: Sustainable Citrus Growing in the Guadalquivir Valley
- Type Operational group
- Status In progress
- Execution 2022 -2024
- Assigned Budget 286.033,00 €
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Andalucía
- Main source of financing PEPAC 2023-2027
The project proposes the implementation and testing of a comprehensive digital system for data analysis and management in the citrus sector. This system, a central element of the Sustainable Citrus Production project in the Guadalquivir Valley, aims to provide the sector and its structures with analytical capabilities that will support, in a professional and rigorous manner, decision-making in agronomic, economic, management, planning, pest prevention, and market aspects, and ultimately, in all aspects that affect or may affect the sector.
As a fundamental part of this system, an open Observatory will be created that is accessible to all stakeholders in the sector, ensuring a flexible and transparent level of transfer and dissemination of knowledge and data. This provides farmers, their associations, the sector, and public authorities with a technological management tool that integrates data from different sources, analyzes them intelligently, and offers improved opportunities for managing all aspects of the sector—economic, agro-environmental, and social—through the Observatory and its information and knowledge transfer system.
Ultimately, the goal is to provide new tools and, as a result, achieve a sustainable citrus sector. During the project's development, the goal is to produce data that will demonstrate the potential for crop management that allows for reduced input use and, therefore, improved environmental and economic management. This will be achieved through the development of various techniques and data monitoring in three demonstration fields, which the group will use to develop the project.
Innovation as an improvement in production, varietal improvement, conversion to more environmentally friendly systems, organic production and optimal resource management. Search for alternatives that guarantee an improvement in the processing and marketing of citrus fruits.
Development of an Intelligent Digital System for managing the widest possible range of data affecting the citrus sector, through the reorganization and tracking of existing information, the collection of new data, and its processing. Providing analytical information and predictive, sustainable, and open scenarios through an Observatory and an information and knowledge transfer system. Field data will also be collected on three 1-hectare plots, using different types of sensors, to improve the agro-environmental, economic, and social management of the crop.
To improve the environmental, economic, and social status of the citrus sector in the Guadalquivir Valley, achieving a more sustainable, competitive, and inclusive sector through the implementation of an innovative, comprehensive digital system for the analysis and management of citrus data.
The objective is to provide farmers, their associative structures and the citrus sector with a technological management tool, with its own methodology, which integrates data from different sources, analyzes them intelligently, and offers better possibilities for managing all aspects of the sector, economic, agro-environmental and social.
