Description
SUBER promotes the modernization of cork extraction through increased mechanization, improved work practices and logistics, improved product characterization, and the pursuit of new innovative applications.
Objectives
- Mechanization of the extraction process to increase productivity.
- Improving working conditions.
- Improved extraction procedures.
- Improving the marketing and valuation of cork and by-products.
Results
- Testing of current mechanized cork-stripping machines, analyzing their performance and ergonomics. Development, construction, and testing of complementary tools for cork extraction.
- Development of work protocols using new and traditional technologies. Development and research into new health and safety systems specifically adapted to cork oak forests.
- Establishment of technical foundations for a new subericulture, adaptation of logistics to mechanized corking, and profitability analysis.
- Product characterization and development of new applications for granules and/or bornizo.
