The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food reaffirms its commitment to generational renewal at the Global Agriculture Forum 2025
Description
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has reaffirmed its commitment to generational change at the new edition of the Global Agriculture Forum 2025 , organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) at its headquarters in Paris.
This was conveyed by the Director General of Rural Development, Innovation and Agri-food Training, Isabel Bombal , who stated that both generational change and the incorporation of women into the sector are "two priorities that all countries of the European Union share."
In this regard, Bombal noted that only 8.6% of farm owners in Spain are under 40 years old, and that women represent less than a third of the total. Therefore, she announced that the ministry is working on various initiatives to “facilitate access to land and financing, as well as to strengthen and promote advisory services and training.”
Cultiva program and shared ownership
During her speech, the director general highlighted the Cultiva program and the Shared Ownership Law for agricultural holdings , as they are two initiatives that “promote training, equality and the intergenerational transfer of knowledge”:
In this regard, Isabel Bombal has argued that the agri-food sector needs to "generate professional and human links" between different generations, commit to innovation and digitalization, and encourage the participation of women in "decision-making bodies".
Spain, co-president of the forum
In this edition, Spain has held the co-presidency of the Global Agriculture Forum, along with the Netherlands, in recognition of its leadership in rural development policies, innovation, and for its support of the incorporation of young people and women into the sector.
The meeting, under the slogan 'Attracting new farmers for the future of agriculture' , has brought together young representatives of governments, international institutions, agricultural organizations, young farmers and experts from around the world.
This forum is being held as part of the OECD Agriculture Week, which also includes the annual meeting of the Committee on Agriculture (COAG) of this international organization, as well as a workshop to promote gender equality in food systems.
Throughout the day, the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, elaborated on the content of the European Union's Generational Change Strategy, which was presented on October 21.
The Spanish ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development , Ximo Puig, also participated .
