The Ourense Provincial Council announces new aid to support livestock and agricultural farms - Campo Galego

The president of the Ourense Provincial Council, Luis Menor, visited a livestock farm in Xunqueira de Espadanedo this morning, with the aim of highlighting the strong support of the provincial institution for the Ourense countryside, through the new lines of aid specifically aimed at the primary sector.

Accompanied by a large representation of the Galician Primary Sector Association, an entity created in Ourense, and by the mayor of Xunqueira de Espadanedo, Pablo Graña, the provincial president highlighted that the Provincial Council is fulfilling the commitment to defend the primary sector acquired last January, in the context of the mobilizations of livestock farmers and agriculturalists who demanded urgent measures to protect their activity in the face of new market challenges.

To make this support effective, the provincial institution approved on August 24 the terms of two new calls for aid, one for a total amount of 350,000 euros, to support agricultural and livestock farms, promote breeding and contribute to the management and protection of the territory.

Luis Menor indicated that numerous applications are expected, which shows that “the institution, thanks to the association, is perfectly aligned with the sector's needs.” He also stated that once the applications have been evaluated, “we will study the possibility of increasing and improving this aid, because we need to take action on the ground and contribute to the viability of agricultural and livestock farms.”

Menor positively assessed this process, as it demonstrates that the provincial administration adopted measures "that directly impact the territory and the people, as a useful institution for society."

Two helplines

The first call is aimed at interventions for the prevention of forest fires and support for livestock and agricultural holdings, with an allocation of 200,000 euros for two types of actions: 25,000 euros for current expenses, which will finance the collection, transport, treatment and recycling of agricultural plastics on farms.

Secondly, 175,000 euros will be for investment, allowing the financing of the acquisition of machinery for fire prevention and biomass management.

The second call is aimed at promoting the breeding of female cattle, sheep and goats in extensive farms, with a budget of 150,000 euros, of which 130,000 will be for cattle and 20,000 for sheep and goats.

The deadline to apply for all these grants is September 25th.
