GO LINOMAR shares its commitment to bioremediation and new generation biostimulants at DATAGRI
Description
The LINOMAR Operational Group actively participated in DATAGRI, the leading event in digital transformation and agritechnology, where it had the opportunity to present its innovative initiative to more than 1,500 professionals from the agri-food sector. Attendees included technology companies, startups, cooperatives, agricultural organizations, research centers, universities, and institutional representatives, who were able to learn firsthand about the progress and objectives of this interregional project.
During the meeting, the members of GO LINOMAR exchanged knowledge and experiences with key players in the agri-food ecosystem, highlighting the relevance of the blue bioeconomy and nature-based solutions to address the major challenges of sustainability, nutrient use efficiency and protection of aquatic ecosystems.
A project to transform waste into agronomic solutions
The GO LINOMAR project: Obtaining biostimulants formulated from algae extracts obtained from nitrate-contaminated waters is 80% co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) of the European Union, within the framework of the CAP-EAFRD Strategic Plan 2023-2027. With a total budget of €595,173.56 and a duration of two years (June 2024 – May 2026), the initiative brings together entities from the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia.
Its main objective is to develop new biostimulants applicable to horticultural and citrus crops , capable of reducing the use of conventional nitrogen fertilizers. To achieve this, the project uses microalgae biomass from the coastal lagoons of the Mar Menor and the Albufera of Valencia, contributing to their bioremediation by extracting nitrates present in their waters.
From environmental restoration to agronomic benefit
GO LINOMAR is advancing along a chain of innovation that includes:
- Identification and isolation of denitrifying microalgae from coastal ecosystems affected by excess nitrates.
- Production of algal biomass in raceway systems , selecting species with denitrifying capacity and bioactive potential.
- Development and formulation of biostimulants made from seaweed extracts, aimed at reducing dependence on conventional nitrogen fertilizers.
- Agronomic validation in horticultural and citrus crops , incorporating technological monitoring tools to assess their impact on productivity and soil health.
Visibility in a strategic forum for the sector
Participation in DATAGRI allowed GO LINOMAR to strengthen its visibility at the country's main agricultural digitalization forum, showing how the integration of biotechnology, the circular economy and digitalization can contribute to a more sustainable, profitable and resilient agricultural model.
The project continues to advance through its different phases, with the aim of offering the sector real solutions based on the responsible use of resources and the improvement of ecosystems, aligned with the priorities of the new CAP and agri-food innovation.
