5th National ModernAKIS CoP Meeting: Advances and New Tools for Agricultural Innovation
Description
On April 23rd, the 5th Meeting of the national ModernAKIS Community of Practice (CoP) was held online, with the participation of prominent speakers from the agri-food sector. The objective was to propose suggestions for improving the presentation of data and research, thus achieving a more accessible and relatable dissemination for all stakeholders who can benefit from innovation and knowledge transfer in the agri-food sector . The event featured examples of tools that facilitate the dissemination of scientific content and good practices. Key advances and innovative tools for improving agricultural innovation systems (AKIS) in Europe were presented during the event.
The day began with a presentation by Rebeca Díez , from the Galician University Business Foundation (FEUGA), who presented an update on the ModernAKIS project, part of the Horizon Europe program. With a seven-year duration and a budget of €10 million, the project seeks to strengthen knowledge transfer in the agri-food sector, with the participation of all 27 Member States. She highlighted the growth of the AKIS network, which now has more than 1,100 members, and the creation of the AKIS Connect digital platform, among other achievements.
Next, Joaquín Buendía , from the School of Industrial Organization (EOI), addressed the creation of effective educational content in the AKIS ecosystem. He emphasized the importance of adapting language and formats, promoting active learning. He also presented innovative tools such as the use of artificial intelligence to create interactive and personalized content, including videos, infographics, and chatbots, highlighting their usefulness in improving knowledge transfer in the sector.
The presentation by Alicia Fayos , from the National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA), began with an introduction to the functioning of INIA and then focused on the transfer of technical and scientific knowledge and addressed examples of R&D projects in the agroforestry sector that demonstrate good practices in dissemination, such as projects that use drones for the application of phytosanitary products, another that addresses the genetic improvement of ruminants or those that face the creation of tools to improve the quality of wood in construction, highlighting the importance of collaboration between actors in the agroforestry sector to promote the exchange of knowledge and technology.
Finally, Juan Pedro Romero Trueba , from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA), spoke about improving content quality and collaboration between digital platforms in European projects. He emphasized the importance of tailoring content to end users and creating knowledge networks through the use of metadata and tools such as the EU Farmbook .
The event concluded with a panel discussion on topics such as access to and use of public knowledge, the impact of artificial intelligence on the agricultural sector, and copyright challenges in the context of AI-driven developments.
This meeting underscores ModernAKIS 's commitment to innovation and collaboration among key players in the agri-food sector, promoting knowledge transfer and the adoption of new technologies.
