Digitizing plot and facility data with GIS
Description
The company iRiego launches the face-to-face course "Digitization of plot and facility data with geographic information systems (GIS)" , which will be held on September 23, 24, 25 and 26, 2025, at the headquarters of the Canal del Páramo Irrigation Community (Santa María del Páramo, León) .
The course, free and with limited space , aims to introduce agricultural professionals, technicians, and students to the use of GIS as a key tool for agricultural and irrigation management . Registration is open until September 22 .
Course objectives
- Understand the basic concepts and use of Geographic Information Systems.
- Learn how to digitize agricultural plots and manage the maintenance of irrigation facilities.
- Learn specific digitalization techniques in different irrigation systems (buried coverage and pivot).
- Take a practical tour to observe how these tools are applied in real-life facilities.
Structure and contents
The training program consists of 24 hours spread over four sessions of six hours each, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- September 23 : Introduction to GIS and first practices in digitizing plots and facilities.
- September 24 : Practical workshop on digital maps and digitization of irrigation maintenance and installations.
- September 25 : Visit to digitalized irrigation facilities to observe technologies in use and exchange experiences with operators.
- September 26 : Digitalization techniques applied to ground-mounted and pivot irrigation systems. Closing session with a review of lessons learned and resolution of any questions.
