Course on risk management and agricultural insurance in a context of climate change

From April 13 to 17, 2026 , CIHEAM Zaragoza will host the course “Risk Management and Agricultural Insurance in a Context of Climate Change” , a specialized training course that can be followed in person or online and is aimed at professionals involved in risk management in agriculture.

Increased climate variability , more frequent extreme weather events , health risks , and market volatility are jeopardizing the profitability and stability of farms in Mediterranean countries. In this context, agricultural insurance is becoming a key tool for mitigating and transferring risks, complementing other public policy-based strategies.

The course aims to provide an up-to-date and practical overview of advanced risk management tools in agriculture , with a particular focus on the design, implementation, and evaluation of agricultural insurance programs tailored to the specific conditions of the Mediterranean region. Throughout the week, innovative approaches and relevant experiences will be analyzed to strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector to climate change.

Recipients

The training is aimed at professionals with university degrees , especially those responsible for designing agricultural policies, staff of insurance companies, and entities linked to agricultural insurance. It is also geared towards managers, technical advisors, researchers, academics, and experts working in agricultural insurance and risk management .

Organizing center

The course is part of the training activity of CIHEAM , an intergovernmental organization that promotes multilateral cooperation to boost more sustainable agri-food systems in the Mediterranean region and has 13 member states.

CIHEAM Zaragoza , the Spanish headquarters of CIHEAM, was founded in 1969 and is located on the Aula Dei Campus , one of the country's leading centers for agri-food research and technology. From this prestigious scientific environment, the Institute promotes internationally recognized training of excellence, applied research, and technical cooperation to address the major challenges facing the Mediterranean region in agriculture, livestock, the environment, and natural resources.
