With this course you will become familiar with the animal welfare of ruminants (sheep and goats) in livestock facilities, learning their regulations and main operating procedures.

CONTENT:

UNIT 1: WELL-BEING IN SHEEP AND GOATS

  • Physiology and sensory perception
  • Basic needs: food, water and shelter
  • Physical and mental health

UNIT 2: CONDITIONS FOR SHEEP AND GOAT WELFARE

  • Protection and well-being: care, accommodation, facilities and equipment
  • Farm management / Gestation and calving
  • Facilities and equipment.
  • Feeders, gates, fences. Milking areas.

UNIT 3: HEALTH

  • Health program: symptoms, diseases, treatment
  • Biosecurity and regulations
  • Occupational Risk Prevention.
  • Animal protection and welfare in animal slaughter and slaughter.
