Description

The SUDOE region is among the most threatened by climate change in Europe. This translates into increased pest pressure on agricultural crops, and the response using chemical plant protection products faces serious environmental and human health challenges. It is essential to design and implement new paradigms among farmers based on the principles of integrated crop protection and the use of alternative products, such as biosolutions. However, the use of biosolutions is currently very limited due to a lack of reference materials, demonstrations, and awareness campaigns.

Thus, the exchange of experiences is crucial to advance in this field and the transfer of knowledge in the SUDOE area is relevant, considering these problems and common crops in that geographical area.

Description of activities

The objective will be achieved through a network of five Living Labs (LLs), distributed between France (x2), Spain (x2), and Portugal (x1), where these strategies will be designed from a multi-stakeholder approach and implemented under operational conditions (GT2). The work will focus on two to three priority pathosystems/LLs in fruit growing and horticulture, as these are sectors where the greatest potential for progress is anticipated.

This will be accompanied by shared training and awareness-raising activities for farmers, using specific digital educational tools (GT3). These cross-cutting and shared approaches, which will involve all actors in the plant protection value chain, will lead to the development of practical recommendations for regional public policies, as well as a strategy for deploying biosolutions and principles of integrated crop protection (GT1).

The Biosoludoe project brings together 10 partners representing 6 regions of the SUDOE area. This unique approach will serve as an example for other regions in the SUDOE area and in Europe.

Objectives

The Biosoludoe project aims to develop Integrated Protection Strategies (IPM) for crops based on biosolutions, in order to evolve towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture.
