Abstract
Traditional lettuce cultivation in the Basque Country is going through a critical period. To address this situation, it is necessary to adopt production models that offer improved productivity and increased added value, while enhancing sustainability.
Description
Garaia S. Coop., along with Barrenetxe SCL and the Neiker technology center, participated in the project "Productivity and sustainability of different lettuce cultivation systems." This project involved monitoring and recording data from several plantations with the aim of comparing three production systems: soil-based, hydroponic, with or without biofertilizers. This has allowed the development of a manual of recommendations for decision-making.
Description of activities
The plan is to establish a pilot project to compare three lettuce production systems: soil-based, hydroponic, with, or without biofertilizers. Monitoring and data collection will allow for the development of a guideline of recommendations for decision-making.
Objectives
The ultimate goal of the project is to improve the productivity and sustainability of protected lettuce cultivation through the use of biofertilizers or biostimulants, which will allow for a stable and sustainable food supply.
