  • Assigned Budget 17.309,00 €
  • Scope Europeo
  • Autonomous community Galicia
  • Main source of financing Erasmus +
Description

Preserving the Future featured 27 young people and group leaders residing in Portugal, Italy, Spain, Greece, and Poland. Participants were selected based on their interest in entrepreneurship and rural development, prioritizing young people with fewer opportunities, with special attention to those facing geographical, social, economic, and educational barriers. Activities were carried out using various non-formal education methods: group dynamics, simulations, role-playing games, treasure hunts, contests, outdoor activities, theater performances, debriefings, and workshops. At the end of each day, or alternatively, early in the morning, there were moments of reflection and evaluation. These dynamics required the expression of emotions, the characterization of developed skills, and a self-assessment that reflected learning moments, ways to achieve them, and their usefulness in the future.

Description of activities

Being in a rural area allows us to offer outdoor activities, which will reinforce the idea we want to convey about caring for the diversity that surrounds us. Hiking trails, visits to intensive and extensive farms in the area, watching documentaries together, and exploring the native flora will be some of the activities we will carry out during the "Preserving the Future" youth exchange. The profile of the participants is young people between 18 and 30 years old, residing in Spain, Portugal, Poland, Italy, or Greece, regardless of their nationality. We are looking for young people interested in topics related to rural development, sustainability, the natural environment, and social action. Their motivation is the acquisition of new knowledge and an openness to new experiences and cultures. Furthermore, young people who live in rural areas, or who are interested in moving to one as part of their life and/or professional project, will be especially valued. Group leaders will be participants with the same conditions described above, but with no age limit. The only difference is that they will be people who have previously participated in similar activities, so they can better understand the dynamics of this type of project and achieve more effective integration of the other participants in a multicultural environment.

Objectives

To provide them with the knowledge and tools necessary to see themselves as agents of change and guardians of their own future. Through environmental education and environmental interpretation, we create a more positive image of rural areas, enabling them to see them as a place to remain and develop. In this sense, we aim to be a tool that, through non-formal learning experiences, complements the knowledge and personal experiences of each participant. We aim to raise awareness of their own potential, their role in facing the challenges of the present and taking advantage of the opportunities of the future. We promote social entrepreneurship and encourage social action to improve the quality of life in the territories they inhabit, to contribute locally to the solution of global problems, and, above all, to demand from their community institutions, through active participation and the implementation of democratic values, the climate justice necessary to achieve a sustainable future with equal opportunities for all.

Results

"Preserving the Future" aims to help participants and organizations develop new professional and personal experiences, skills, and knowledge. During the project, participants will have the opportunity to address various topics that will increase their knowledge, adapt their attitudes, and acquire new skills in:

  • European Youth Goals, specifically number 6 “Advancing rural youth”.
  • Social entrepreneurship
  • Biodiversity conservation and Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Rural Development.
  • Erasmus+ Opportunities.
  • Non-formal education.

We will discuss the job opportunities available in both the sustainable use of the natural environment and biodiversity conservation. We want to inspire young people to appreciate the natural resources that their rural communities of origin harbor and sustain, so that they can develop a proactive attitude toward their conservation.
