Description of activities

"Active Permaculture as a Youth Exchange is based on a series of good practices from the SALTO guides, and therefore presents a series of activities linked to learning, expression and sharing. Among the activities linked to learning, there will be contact with Mas Les Vinyes, as well as with permaculture, giving them the opportunity to learn firsthand about a cooperative that is very successful in achieving its goals of sustainability, ecology and agricultural design. They will participate in activities linked to the cooperative, such as eco-construction, caring for vegetable gardens and farm animals, water and resource management and food processing. Within the second type of activities, the first will be the Hopes and Expectations session, in which participants will be able to define their goals and express their concerns or hopes. Every morning they will enjoy morning circles, a type of joint meditation that aims to create a safe space for the body and mind where participants can reflect and start the day with concentration and self-care. At the same time, participants will have the opportunity to Express themselves in the reflection groups, providing them with a safe space to communicate their needs and opinions about the experience they will have. Mid- and final evaluations of the project will also give them the opportunity to express their ideas and opinions, helping them connect with themselves and others and helping us improve where necessary. Finally, activities such as knowledge exchange or intercultural sessions will aim to build community through mutual understanding, the presentation of their cultures and skills, and the enjoyment of cultural exchange. This will impact their learning and the sense of creating a united and inclusive world and a respectful society, in line with the European Project.

All of these activities will be based on flexibility, adaptation to the needs of participants, and horizontal dialogue, grounded in nonviolent communication, respect, and the participation of all. We aim to create a participatory, educational, and highly safe and inclusive space where participants feel welcome and enjoy a unique learning experience in an inspiring and healthy social and environmental setting. Regarding the number and profile of participants, we expect to welcome 30 young people from different European countries with a profile based on selection criteria that will prioritize participants with fewer resources and opportunities, that is, people who are not in a favorable situation to enjoy this type of social and educational experience. Ideally, we want to have young people from rural areas who are interested in nature and sustainability, to provide them with useful, enriching, and fruitful learning in this vein.

Objectives

The objective of this joint project between Boodavillle and partner organizations is to generate a learning experience through non-formal education that helps us strengthen the education of young Europeans in matters of sustainability, the environment, and society. At the same time, we aim to provide opportunities for disadvantaged and unemployed young people, contributing to a more equitable and just society. Permaculture, as a system of agricultural, economic, political, and social design principles, is a way of relating to the environment in a responsible and respectful manner that also contributes to generating a sense of social unity and connection with nature and the rural world.

Therefore, our goal is to help raise awareness among young people about a lifestyle that respects society and nature in a social context where consumerism, waste, hectic urban life, individualism, and environmental exploitation are the main dynamics of society.

We also believe that promoting these ways of relating to the environment will undoubtedly impact young people's well-being, their empowerment, their creativity, and their understanding of an international and interconnected world in which we must cooperate. We hope that young people will be motivated to create their own projects, that they will acquire an intercultural vision of Europe and its society, and that they will feel the need to promote and participate in a sustainable, cooperative, ecological way of life that is respectful of their society, their environment, and themselves.

Results

We hope this exchange will have a very positive impact on young people, helping them in various areas. We hope to encourage them to promote international mobility opportunities and the transition toward a more sustainable and ecological society once they return to their countries with new intercultural knowledge and skills after participating in the planned non-formal education activities. At the same time, we hope that through ecological and social entrepreneurship, a profound change in attitude toward the natural world and the use of its resources will be generated. We hope to generate interest in and connect with nature, contributing to a more humane and eco-centric view of the environment, giving our surroundings the importance they deserve and no longer viewing them from a mechanistic perspective based on the mere exploitation of resources and without respect for them. This will undoubtedly contribute to the personal well-being of participants and raise awareness of the need to engage in sustainability, ecology, and sustainable lifestyles that are not based on consumerism and individualism. On an individual level, participants will develop greater motivation and autonomy to present ideas and share new knowledge in a multilingual environment that will gently push them out of their learning comfort zone during the exchange. This will have a positive impact on their future professional and social lives. They will be able to participate in a wide variety of activities and sessions that will contribute to this personal and social progress in the areas of communication, mutual respect, sharing, and the enjoyment of cultural and social exchange. For youth leaders, the impact of the project will impact their learning to design activities focused on youth empowerment, thus gaining valuable multicultural and multidisciplinary work experience, as well as knowledge about Erasmus+.

Teamwork within the Mas Les Vinyes cooperative will undoubtedly help them understand the value of cooperation in a social context, strengthening their communication, mutual trust, and understanding the value of collaboration between people to achieve more fruitful and personally rewarding results. At the same time, by increasing civic engagement and participation at the local and European levels, this project will influence the participants' identity and sense of belonging to the EU. They will see themselves as active European citizens who can contribute to their societies and bring about change in their communities.
