The Island Consortium of the La Palma World Biosphere Reserve seeks to increase biodiversity in the territories declared Biosphere Reserves by UNESCO . To this end, it aims to involve citizens in areas where the government is unable to preserve or restore natural, cultural, and landscape resources, suggesting new uses and establishing measures for environmental improvement and public enjoyment.

The initiative has several specific objectives. Within the framework of the project, the Strategic Plan for Integrated Land Stewardship in Biosphere Reserves will be drafted and the Integrated Land Stewardship Network for Biosphere Reserves will be created .

Furthermore, a training program will be launched for Biosphere Reserve managers to promote and implement Integrated Land Stewardship in the Spanish Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Pilot projects will also be developed as prototypes in the La Palma World Biosphere Reserve for subsequent implementation in other Biosphere Reserves. Finally, the goal is to involve landowners and civil society in land management to improve the landscape and biodiversity in Biosphere Reserves.
