Biodiversity Foundation Project: Master's Degree in Composting

Description

At Friends of the Earth, we have demonstrated for years that composting is one of the most important tools for moving toward zero waste. Studies indicate that employment in this sector will increase significantly in the coming years, due, on the one hand, to the need to comply with waste regulations and, on the other, to the fact that it is an area in which almost everything remains to be done. In order to train unemployed people and prepare them for the coming years, when municipalities will have to separate the organic fraction of their municipal waste and manage it primarily through composting—and will need people with the necessary knowledge to do so correctly—Friends of the Earth are organizing these Master's courses in Composting.

Description of activities

Six Master's courses in Composting will be offered. The courses are free and aimed at unemployed individuals. Four courses will be offered in Galicia and two in the Community of Madrid. The courses will consist of 50 hours of classroom instruction, both theoretical and practical, and will cover the complete management cycle of the organic fraction of waste.

Objectives

To train unemployed people and prepare them for the coming years, when municipalities will have to separate the organic fraction of their municipal waste and manage it primarily through composting. They will need people with the necessary knowledge to do this correctly.
