This project pursues the goal of zero discharge from agriculture and irrigation processes in the Mar Menor basin through an alternative fertilization model using natural zeolites. To this end, demonstration fertilization treatments will be carried out in three different crop types, covering 20 locations in two municipalities within the Campo de Cartagena area, to reduce nitrogen. Similarly, work will be done on zeolite treatments that allow the replacement of desalination plants and filters with natural catalytic media that simultaneously promote the de-eutrophication of irrigation ponds.
- Ecofertilization activities, that is, fertilization activities without the use of agrochemicals, naturally, through biostimulation.
- Treatment activity (deeutrophication and desalination) without the use of agrochemicals, naturally, without energy consumption or the need for investment.
- Involvement of farmers and irrigators in the cultivation and irrigation of crops through training, awareness-raising, and capacity-building workshops and activities.
- Conducting baseline analyses of the objective improvement parameters and demonstrating the proposed pilot project.
- Creation of a scientific committee to provide support for the generation and use of scientific knowledge, research, and monitoring of project actions.
The project addresses the replacement of fertilizers and other agrochemicals used to treat agricultural pests with inorganic plant and soil biostimulants based on natural or synthetic zeolites (biosilicas) on 90 hectares. Its specific objectives include: 80% replacement of nitrogen and agrochemicals in agriculture. Replacement of desalination plants and filters with natural biocatalytic media in water-softening irrigation ponds. 100% natural de-eutrophication of irrigation ponds. Achieving technical consensus between farmers and irrigators. Achieving scientific consensus on the results of inorganic biostimulation.
