Description
CUCURABIOT aims to save water resources through genetic diversity and digitization
Contextual description
Leveraging the biodiversity of the Cucurbitaceae family in the fight against climate change, exploring its resilience to water scarcity and cultivation in marginal areas to enable its use in low-input agriculture with reduced environmental impact. This involves integrating cutting-edge technologies, such as the use of drones as aerial data acquisition platforms with sensors, to improve the digitalization of the cultivation of species within this family.
Results
The resistance of cucurbits to salinity and drought has been improved through genetic diversity and the integration of traditional varieties with drones and sensors, developing more efficient irrigation and fertilization strategies that reduce water, fertilizer, and pesticide use without affecting productivity, thus promoting more resilient and sustainable crops. Patent: GROC melon variety resistant to powdery mildew and viral diseases GROC/R/PmV.
