AGROALNEXT Project: Determination and monitoring of the mealybug pest in fruit trees (orange and persimmon trees) using satellite
- Type Project
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Comunitat Valenciana
- Main source of financing NextGenerationEU
- Project website Web del Proyecto
Description
CoFrut-Monitor is investigating how to monitor and predict mealybug incidence using satellite-derived information
Contextual description
Given the dramatic increase in fertilizer prices, CoFrut-Monitor can help farmers better manage the actual needs of their fields and more effectively target fungicide or pesticide treatments, all while maintaining or improving their yields. The applications proposed by the project can represent cost savings for farmers and contribute to greater sustainability in agricultural practices.
Results
A monitoring and prediction system for mealybug in citrus and persimmons has been developed using satellite remote sensing. This system is capable of detecting alterations in crops before symptoms are visible and integrating soil, drone, and satellite data to generate early warnings that allow for more efficient treatment, reduced costs, minimized pesticide use, and improved crop sustainability.
