Description
The project evaluates alternative agricultural practices to improve sustainability and adapt to the European Green Deal. It analyzes their impact and acceptability within the agri-food chain and proposes measures for agricultural policies and resource management in the face of climate change.
Contextual description
Design of agri-food policies and natural resource management in the context of the European Green Deal.
Results
The application of alternative farming practices such as deficit irrigation, diversification, biological control, organic fertilization, incorporation of organic residues, and the establishment of perimeter hedges increases the provision of ecosystem services and reduces the negative impact of ecosystem services. The adoption of two or more alternative farming practices is suggested to adapt agriculture to climate change. There is both demand (WTP = €2.62/kg) and supply (WTP = €483.57/ha) for the purchase and production of lemons using alternative practices, which increases added value throughout the entire value chain. Regulated deficit irrigation is the most cost-effective agricultural practice for maximizing ecosystem services.
