Transfer of research results on new varieties of red fruits and their adaptation to climate change
Contextual description
The berry sector in Asturias faces the challenge, which also presents an opportunity, of adapting to climate change. This entails the need for varietal renewal and the updating of cultivation techniques. This adaptation requires not only evaluating their performance in local production systems, but also characterizing fruit quality to meet the demands of a highly dynamic and demanding market. Ensuring the effective transfer of results is essential, facilitating innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness within the production sector.
Results
Varietal renewal, a new harvest schedule, climate risk management, and fruit quality improvement through covering of blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. Optimization of soilless cultivation. Knowledge transfer to the sector through informational brochures and the book "Blackberry Cultivation in Asturias."
