Description

This conference aims to address the challenges associated with the dairy sector's transition from a practical perspective: how to better measure the carbon footprint, what solutions can truly help reduce emissions, the roles of cooperatives, industry, science, and government, and how to move towards sustainability that is useful, viable, and connected to the realities of farms. The conference is designed for farmers, cooperatives, the dairy industry, public administration, research centers, students, consultants, technology companies, and innovation stakeholders.

The session will feature the presentation of the LAKTIS project's White Guide and will include institutional presentations, two keynote addresses, roundtables, participatory activities, networking opportunities, and a technical visit to the region. Participants will include Diego Canga, Acting Deputy Director-General, DG AGRI – European Commission; David Yáñez-Ruiz, CSIC researcher and expert in livestock sustainability and emissions reduction; and Nuria M. Arribas Vera, Managing Director of InLac, who will moderate one of the roundtables. Also participating are the LAKTIS project partners: AGACA, providing the perspective of agri-food cooperatives; CAPSA, representing the dairy industry; Central Lechera Asturiana and CLUN, as cooperatives; and Medrar, a consultancy specializing in sustainability and digitalization, which coordinates the project.

The White Guide is one of the main results of the LAKTIS project and includes lessons learned, conclusions and recommendations to advance the sustainability of the dairy sector from a broad and integrated perspective.
