BIOagroCHAR Project: Evaluation of the production and agronomic and environmental potential of biochar obtained from forest residues
- Type Operational group
- Status Filled
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Extremadura
- Main source of financing CAP 2023-2027
- Project website BIOagroCHAR
The project evaluates the production, characterization and application of biochar from forest waste, with emphasis on its agronomic and environmental potential.
The project will investigate the optimization of the pyrolysis process to maximize biochar yield and quality, analyzing various sources of residual biomass and considering key operational variables. Its physicochemical, structural, and agronomic characterization will allow for the determination of its stability and composition. The biochar is expected to improve soil fertility, contribute to climate change mitigation, and facilitate its implementation in sustainable agricultural systems.
- Laboratory tests will be conducted to evaluate its effect on seed germination and soil dynamics, followed by tests on experimental soils to analyze its impact on fertility and agricultural productivity.
- Its capacity for carbon sequestration and water retention in soils will be studied.
- The technical and economic feasibility of the optimized process will be analyzed.
The BIOagroCHAR project's main objective is to generate scientific knowledge about the specific process of biochar production from forest waste and by-products and to investigate the agronomic and environmental impact of its application in soil, in a technically and economically viable way, without causing harm to the environment, in order to contribute to its comprehensive and responsible management.
Specific objectives:
- OE1. Optimize the process of obtaining biochar from selected forest residues, in order to maximize its quality
- OE2. Determine the physicochemical, agronomic and structural parameters of the biochar obtained
- OE3. Test the agronomic effects of biochar on a laboratory scale
- OE4. Test on a laboratory scale the environmental effects of the use of biochar in soil
