Description
AGROMEL is investigating how to non-invasively find substances related to food origin and safety
Contextual description
In recent years, there has been an increase in pests and diseases affecting plants and animals, jeopardizing food security. This research will directly contribute to one of the most important current challenges facing agricultural production: reducing the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. This approach will directly benefit agriculture, beekeeping (by being more environmentally friendly), and, of course, consumers, who will have access to more sustainable and healthier food.
Results
Technological tools have been developed to guarantee the botanical and geographical traceability of honey, detect adulterations and differentiate Spanish honeys from imported ones, improving food safety, transparency and sustainability of the beekeeping sector.
