Description

The Platform for Extensive Livestock Farming and Pastoralism is a broad network of people and organizations committed to supporting, researching and defending this livestock farming model and the enormous services it provides to society from an economic, ecological, social, cultural and landscape perspective.

The objectives of the Platform are:

  1. To defend and support extensive livestock farming, understood as the set of livestock production systems that efficiently utilize the resources of the territory with the appropriate species and breeds, reconciling production with sustainability and generating environmental and social services.
  2. Promote management practices such as the use of native breeds, livestock mobility, reduction of external inputs, animal welfare and management of livestock loads appropriate to the resources available in each territory.
  3. To guarantee and enhance the well-being and quality of life of farmers and shepherds.
  4. To provide extensive and pastoral livestock farming in Spain with a regulatory framework and differentiated public policies that take into account its unique characteristics.
  5. To contribute to coordination between territories to promote a common model of extensive livestock farming that facilitates aspects such as mobility and transhumance.
  6. To strengthen the presence of extensive livestock farming and pastoralism in decision-making forums, at the state, European, and regional levels.
  7. To promote a specific and differentiated treatment of extensive and pastoral livestock systems within the CAP.
  8. To create a space for meeting, debate and joint work among the multiple social agents related to extensive pastoral and livestock farming.
  9. To promote the social visibility of extensive livestock farming and pastoralism and to convey to society the importance of their economic, social, ecological and cultural contributions.
  10. To bring together the entities and people who share the vision contained in the other objectives and who are determined to work together in a coordinated manner to support the sector.
