  • The meeting will address policies, strategies and best practices for conserving agricultural, livestock and forestry biodiversity in Spain

The Galician Forestry Sector Association ( Asefoga ) will hold a new online technical conference on November 19, 2025 , from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. , dedicated to agroforestry biodiversity , a key topic for the future of the agricultural, livestock and forestry sector.

Under the name “A4. Agroforestry Biodiversity” , the session is part of the program of outreach activities promoted by Asefoga with the aim of raising awareness, training and sharing experiences on the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in rural areas.

Understanding and applying biodiversity in the territory

The course will offer a comprehensive view of the challenges, policies and opportunities presented by biodiversity conservation in the agroforestry environment, addressing both international frameworks and national and local initiatives.

Planned program:

  1. Introduction to agroforestry biodiversity
    Basic concepts, ecological and economic importance, and main current threats.
  2. International and national context
    Analysis of global conventions and strategies (Convention on Biological Diversity, European Biodiversity Strategy 2030), as well as sectoral policies in Spain and the current state of biodiversity in agricultural and forestry systems.
  3. Sectoral regulations and strategies
    Review of the current legal framework , national conservation strategies and integration of biodiversity into agricultural, livestock and forestry plans .
  4. The CAP and biodiversity
    Evaluation of the environmental measures of the Common Agricultural Policy , including eco-schemes , environmental conditionality and conservation-linked funding opportunities.
  5. Good practices and experiences
    Presentation of concrete examples of sustainable agricultural, livestock and forestry practices :
  • Planting of flower margins, polycultures and use of local varieties.
  • Extensive grazing, conservation of native breeds and holistic management.
  • Sustainable forest management, conservation of mixed forests and recovery of native species.
    In addition, success stories of projects and initiatives developed in Spain and Europe will be shared, such as the LIFE programs or local experiences of integrating biodiversity into farms.
