GO BIOFUN presents its final results on virus-free functional biodiversity in protected crops.
Description
The final event of the GO BIOFUN project will take place on June 26, 2025 , in El Ejido (Almería). This free, in-person event will showcase the main results of this innovative initiative.
The project has investigated the role of auxiliary flora inside greenhouses, assessing their capacity as refuges and food sources for beneficial auxiliary fauna, without posing a risk of virus spread to horticultural crops. The objective: to advance toward more sustainable biological control and reduce dependence on phytosanitary treatments.
During the day, we will analyze how proper biodiversity management in greenhouses can promote ecological balance, optimize the presence of insects that are allies in pest control, and minimize the threat of viral diseases.
Program:
- Welcome and inauguration by Ramón Gil Pérez , director of the Cajamar Experimental Station.
- Presentation of the objectives and progress of the BIOFUN Operational Group , by Rosa García Martínez (Coexphal).
- Presentation of the initial situation of biodiversity in greenhouses by Emilio Pérez López (Coprohníjar) and Juan Carlos Urrea Ramos (Vicasol).
- Analysis of auxiliary flora, its benefits for biological control, and the risks associated with viruses affecting solanaceae and cucurbits, with the participation of technicians from Cajamar and Coexphal.
- Final colloquium to discuss conclusions and next steps.
The GO BIOFUN project is funded within the framework of the Andalusian RDP , with support from the EAFRD (90%) and the Andalusian Regional Government (10%) .
