Resilience Cloud for Goat (RC4GOAT) Operational Group: Improving the Resilience of the Andalusian Dairy Goat through the Creation of a Federated Data Cloud Platform

  • Type Operational group
  • Status In progress
  • Execution 2023 -2025
  • Assigned Budget 294.224,00 €
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Andalucía
  • Project website GO RC4GOAT
Abstract

This project aims to advance the automation of the collection and analysis of technical, economic, and environmental information related to the operation of goat farms, in order to optimize their management and real-time decision-making, contribute to their resilience, and develop future predictions for the goat sector based on reliable data. The data collection strategy, software specifications, and the selection of relevant technical, economic, and environmental indicators will be developed jointly, leading to the subsequent design and development of the federated data platform.

This platform will be tested under real-life farm conditions to verify that the indicators developed by the operational group are useful to farmers, thereby contributing to increasing the efficiency of goat dairy production, optimizing resources, and reducing the environmental impact of livestock farming. Expected results include the digitization of data processing to move toward real-time decision-making based on big data. Additionally, the generation of the selected indicators is expected to facilitate decision-making at both the farm and sector levels, in the latter case using aggregated information. This project could serve as a path forward in the use of digital platforms for data collection, processing, and analysis, thereby bringing transparency to the sector and improving decision-making capacity at all levels.

Description

This project aims to advance the automation of the collection and analysis of technical, economic, and environmental information related to the operation of goat farms, in order to optimize their management and real-time decision-making, contribute to their resilience, and develop future predictions for the goat sector based on reliable data.

Description of activities

Following the literature review, the information needed to design and develop a federated data platform and a cloud-based data warehouse will be selected. Progress will be made in automating the collection of technical, economic, and environmental data from goat farms and in creating indicators and prediction equations to improve management and decision-making for farmers. Finally, the solutions will be validated on-site with farmers. Additionally, outreach activities and coordination and reporting activities will be carried out.

Objectives

The objective of RC4GOAT is to increase the profitability of dairy goat farms in Andalusia by automating the collection and analysis of technical and economic information on farms and generating indicators for proper management, real-time decision-making, and future predictions.

Results

Among the expected results is the digitization of data processing to move toward real-time decision-making based on big data.
