Operational Group: Determining Adequate Nutrient Concentrations and Diagnosing Pathogens in Olive Sap. Testing and Transfer
- Type Operational group
- Status In progress
- Execution 2022 -2024
- Assigned Budget 187.755,00 €
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Andalucía
- Main source of financing PEPAC 2023-2027
- Project website GO SAVIA OLIVAR
The olive sector is demanding accurate diagnostic systems tailored to its needs, which do not limit the diagnostic period to July, as is the case with leaves, and which take into account the changes that have been incorporated into olive grove management, especially due to the increasingly frequent fertigation operations and their application in summer, which have generated changes in nutrient evolution curves in leaves. Regarding pathogens, it is necessary to anticipate visual symptoms so that the problem can be isolated as quickly as possible and contribute to resolving false negatives with the traditional method.
PHASES:
- DOCUMENTARY
FIELD OR EXPERIMENTAL
Goals:
Establish optimal nutrient concentrations in sap, leaves and soil in different periods, in irrigated and dry olive groves and integrated production
Soil, leaf and sap analysis
Detection of iron deficiencies in sap
Detection of Verticillium in sap
Dissemination and transfer of results
- DATA PROCESSING AND FINAL REPORT WRITING
DIVULGATION
Maintenance of the saviaolivar.eu website
Conducting technical workshops
Attendance and presentation of results at conferences and journals
Press releases and interviews
Publications on the project website and on those of its participants and collaborators
The project aims to address the limitations imposed by the current nutritional diagnosis system in olive groves (leaf analysis), which, consequently, addresses the difficulties faced by technicians and producers in adjusting fertilization and correcting the necessary treatments. A second aspect is the need to diagnose the presence of Verticillium by anticipating the visual manifestation of its symptoms.
The project focused on finding adequate nutrient levels in sap to make a more accurate nutritional diagnosis and test the validity of sap as a sensitive material for the early detection of Verticillium.
