Palm Trees Operational Group: Innovation in the organic cultivation of date palms

The proposal of the "Operational Group for Innovation in the Organic Cultivation of Date Palms" is to replace the use of neonicotinoids (used until recently to control the red palm weevil) with fungi that allow date palm cultivation without the use of toxic products, which gives the date palm additional value by not presenting residues.

The Task Force aims to establish guidelines for achieving a valued and profitable product for existing farmers and the professionalization of the palm sector. This seeks to update a traditional sector, bringing the crop closer to consumers and thus facilitate its commercialization.

The use of sustainable tools opens the door to certifications that represent added value, such as organic or Halal certification.
