Operational Group: Combined cultivation of organic fruit trees and organic vegetables in a Keep in touch netting system
- Type Operational group
- Execution 2017
- Assigned Budget 4.993,00 €
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Galicia
- Main source of financing PEPAC 2014-2020
Every year, yields are minimal or lost due to late frosts that ruin flowering, continued and severe droughts, rains when the fruit is ripening, etc. This project aims to demonstrate that using this innovative production system in Galicia will ensure higher-quality, higher-yield production for much longer periods of the year, preventing the low yield from being concentrated in the months of August and September. The keep-in-touch netting production system will be implemented on two plots, initially with native cherry trees, peaches, plums, etc., and native vegetable varieties, including the Oimbra pepper. It also minimizes the presence of pests in the crops by clearly establishing a physical barrier.
This Operational Group seeks to develop a project involving the cultivation of fruit and vegetables using an organic production system using a keep-in-touch netting system combined with an irrigation system powered by solar panels. This system will significantly reduce the need for weather-dependent crops.
