Operational Group: Olive Trees in Galicia

  • Type Operational group
  • Execution 2017
  • Assigned Budget 5.000,00 €
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Galicia
  • Main source of financing PEPAC 2014-2020
Description

The practical use of the results is to find a formula to avoid fraud when Galician oils are put on the market. This will give a definitive boost to the incorporation of oil made from Galician olives obtained through future producers in rural Galicia who, due to their bioclimatic characteristics, can incorporate this crop.

For the propagation of olive cuttings, a partner is sought who has already carried out some study on olive trees and is knowledgeable about the sector, so that, once this process begins, all the information can be disseminated so that anyone linked, or who wants to be linked, to the rural sector can carry out plantations with certified plants and guarantee the variety of plants. At the same time, a study is intended to be carried out to find out what is the ideal planting framework to ensure that the plant does not suffer stress, to study the hydraulic needs and the most frequent pests and diseases that can affect it.

Objectives

The objective of this Task Force is to prevent the incorporation of foreign varieties by designing a propagation method adapted to the bioclimatic zone studied, ensuring the planting of Galician olive trees rather than foreign varieties, which take longer to adapt to the area's soil and climatic conditions and produce lower production yields.

The practical value of the results lies in developing a formula to prevent fraud when Galician-produced oils are marketed. This will provide a definitive boost to the incorporation of oil from Galician olives obtained through future producers in rural Galicia who, due to their bioclimatic characteristics, can incorporate this crop.

For the propagation of olive cuttings, we are seeking a partner who has already conducted some research on olive trees and is knowledgeable about the sector. This will ensure that, once this process begins, all information can be disseminated so that anyone involved in, or wishing to be involved in, the rural sector can plant certified plants, ensuring the plant variety.

At the same time, a study is being conducted to determine the ideal planting framework to ensure the plant is not subjected to stress, to study its water requirements, and to identify the most common pests and diseases that can affect it.
