Adaptive management of animal production in pasture systems

  • Type Grupo operativo
  • Execution 2017
  • Assigned Budget 4.800,00 €
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Andalucía
  • Main source of financing PEPAC 2014-2020
Description

These systems integrate advanced technological tools (early estimation of primary productivity through remote sensing) and participatory management tools (collaboration in user networks) in a decision-making framework that allows for continuous optimization of management actions (learning by doing).

The proposed tools and techniques will reduce the impact of (over)grazing on pasture production and forest recruitment, a major problem for oak forests, and adapt local management systems to the effect that changes in precipitation and temperature patterns (associated with climate change) have on pasture and acorn production.

Objectives

The objective of the Operational Group is to implement collaborative adaptive management (CAM) systems to optimize the management of extensive livestock farming in pasture areas with high climatic variability.

The objective will be to optimize the production/sustainability balance through comprehensive agroforestry management plans, within the Management Plans of the farms and operations.

The contribution to the AEI's objective of boosting productivity and sustainable management of resources will focus on providing a substantial improvement in the current management of oak forests used for livestock, cork and conservation of the natural environment.
