Description
The aim is to design a business model for the provision of livestock services to improve the competitiveness of transhumant grazing. Transhumance is essential for the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable management of the “pasture” resource.
Objectives
- To set up a new business model for the provision of summer grazing services for meat sheep farms in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula.
- To restore the pastoral use of sheep in the Cantabrian mountain range and, consequently, to enable the recovery of the corresponding area of pastures in the south of the peninsula.
- To dignify and guarantee the activity of transhumance and improve the relationships between farmers-shepherds-owners-managers-environmentalists.
Results
- Establishment of a new framework for managing the activity through the use of innovative technologies applied in livestock receiving and sending areas.
- Demonstrative implementation of an innovative business model for providing services to grazing.
- Improving and assessing the conservation status of priority habitats and species.
- Establishment of management models that contribute to increasing biodiversity in priority habitats.
- Incorporation into the workforce and training of the necessary shepherds.
