Description
Produce papaya in Spain in sufficient quantity and quality for export to Europe through profitable and sustainable cultivation strategies that prioritize rational use of production factors.
Objectives
- Design greenhouses for optimal papaya development and select the ideal plant material for each production area.
- Improve farm profitability and production competitiveness through efficient use of resources and environmentally friendly cultivation techniques.
- Increase the final value of papaya production while maintaining quality at destination.
Results
- Establishment of the requirements and equipment necessary in greenhouses for the sustainable production of papaya in each geographical area.
- Selection of the best adapted crops in each productive area.
- Establishing transplant dates and planting densities to optimize fruit production and quality.
- Definition of the harvesting criteria and appropriate post-harvest treatments that guarantee optimal organoleptic and aesthetic quality of the fruit at destination and determination of bioactive and healthy compounds.
