Description
To produce papaya in Spain in sufficient quantity and quality for export to Europe through profitable and sustainable cultivation strategies that prioritize the rational use of production factors.
Objectives
- Design greenhouses for optimal papaya development and select the ideal plant material for each production area.
- Improve farm profitability and production competitiveness through efficient use of resources and environmentally friendly cultivation techniques.
- Increase the final value of papaya production while maintaining quality at destination.
Results
- Establishment of greenhouse requirements and equipment for sustainable papaya production in each geographic area, selection of the crops best suited to each production area.
- Establishing transplant dates and planting densities to optimize fruit production and quality.
- Definition of harvesting criteria and appropriate post-harvest treatments to ensure optimal organoleptic and aesthetic quality of the fruit at its destination, and determination of bioactive and health-promoting compounds.
