Description

SIGCA promotes increased competitiveness in the maritime pine forestry and industrial sectors by developing tools that optimize their production capacity for quality wood.

Objectives
  • Improve maritime pine forestry by developing forestry standards that incorporate wood quality as a criterion.
  • Empower managers and appraisers with innovative tools for assessing and classifying forest resources.
  • Implement industry-validated classification technologies and standards for the various products in the forestry-industry value chain.
  • Improve wood traceability throughout the forestry-industry value chain.
Results
  • Quantitative inventory and acquisition of a representative sample of maritime pine stands nationwide, allowing for analysis of the influence of forestry on wood quality.
  • Tools for assigning technological quality and for calculating and classifying wood volumes based on the morphological characteristics of standing trees.
  • Standardization of technological qualities. Development of the first mechanical classification system based on acoustic techniques. Qualitative inventory of maritime pine stands and development of a SiGCa quality certification.
  • Tool for marking and tracing wood.
