Publication date: 27/09/2024

Description

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has opened the public consultation for the National Action Plan 2025-2029 on the sustainable use of phytosanitary products. This plan, framed within Royal Decree 1311/2012, represents a central axis in the ministry's policy to promote a more rational and safe use of these products. The main objective is to reduce the impact of phytosanitary products on health and the environment, promoting sustainability in the agricultural sector.

The new plan is the result of an in-depth analysis of the current state of use of phytosanitary products in Spain and includes the recommendations of the European Commission and the participation of various stakeholders, such as the productive sectors, administrations and non-governmental organisations. Its final approval will depend on the contributions collected during the public hearing process, which will allow its measures to be adjusted to the specific needs of the sector.

With an ambitious approach, the plan introduces improvements in key areas such as integrated pest management, training of professionals and digitalisation. The ministry seeks not only to preserve human health and biodiversity, but also to ensure the economic viability of agricultural holdings, maintaining Spain as a benchmark in sustainable production both at European and international level.
