The Secretary General of Agriculture and Food highlights the role of fertilization in achieving sustainable agriculture
Description
The Secretary General of Agriculture and Food, Fernando Miranda, today highlighted the role of fertilisation in achieving sustainable agriculture, since the application of nutrients to crops is essential for crop productivity and results in their profitability and sustainability.
Fernando Miranda has spoken at the closing of the presentation of the results of the AgroSceNa-up project , which evaluates agricultural management scenarios at different scales for sustainable Mediterranean cropping systems by reducing nitrogen losses. He has pointed out that fertilization is a complex task because it requires taking many factors into account, some of which are variable and beyond the farmer's control, such as the climate or the presence of pests. In this sense, he has highlighted that Royal Decree 1051/2022, of December 27, which establishes standards for sustainable nutrition in agricultural soils, seeks to establish the minimum rules to achieve rational crop nutrition that allows increasing or maintaining productivity while minimizing possible adverse effects on the environment, the same spirit that is imbued with the AgroSceNa-up project.
The Secretary General praised the rigour of this project for the global vision it proposes, considering actions of a diverse nature, from an approach focused exclusively on agricultural holdings to one that is territorially integrated and that contemplates, for example, the coupling of plant and animal production.
