The European Parliament has given the final approval to the new regulation for PGIs and DOs

The European Parliament has ratified the political agreement that aims to strengthen the productions protected by distinctive features such as designations or PGIs, their gastronomic heritage and their protection in trade agreements.

The revised rules will improve the existing system through a simplified and more efficient registration procedure, which will reduce the waiting time between application and actual recognition of the geographical indication to less than one year.
