Women still face structural challenges that prevent many of them from developing their full potential. In rural and depopulated areas, they face a double obstacle: in addition to the gender gap, they also need to overcome the urban-rural gap to progress and become leaders of their own projects.

Given this, the European Leadership Academy has created the Women's Academy for Rural Innovation , a program aimed at women in rural communities and focused on training digital and leadership skills. The objective is for the new skills to be exercised from their own territories after the end of the program.

Fifteen participants will be selected by an independent jury and will receive a full scholarship to attend the academy (including travel and maintenance). The call for applications , which ends on September 27, 2022 , is open to European rural women of all ages and profiles. Check the requirements to apply here .

Located in Castilla y León

The first edition of the “Women's Academy for Rural Innovation” will take place in Castilla y León, in different settings in the province of Ávila. The headquarters will be located in the town of Candeleda.

The program focuses on the following points:

  • Entrepreneurship.
  • The new technologies.
  • The digitalization of SMEs.
  • Keys to sustainable and egalitarian business growth.

Using debate as a pedagogical tool, mentors and subject matter expert speakers will take an in-depth look at the challenges faced by women in rural areas, encouraging participants to explore innovative solutions that can generate tangible results in their region. The program with master classes, debates and workshops lasts one week.

Rural women

The “Women's Academy for Rural Innovation” is created specifically for women linked to rural areas in any region of the European Union. The jury seeks that they have diverse origins, and, above all, that they demonstrate a love for new technologies, innovation and leadership for economic growth in their respective territories.

It does not matter so much that the main professional profile is in agriculture, livestock, crafts, engineering or tourism, as that the interest is aimed at acquiring the necessary skills to lead the rural areas of Europe from innovation and digital.

Although the “Women's Academy for Rural Innovation” debuts with this edition, the European Leadership Academy has other programs on female leadership, such as the “Schools of Women's Leadership in the Digital Age” and which have had several editions.
