Comprehensive digitalization of irrigation: the MAPA finalizes the work in Casinos (Valencia)
Description
Modernisation in irrigation management involves achieving better control of consumption by optimising infrastructure.
Digitalisation in these irrigation infrastructures is key and the example of the implementation of a comprehensive digitalised system in Casinos (Valencia) is already finalising the work for this digital improvement in its infrastructures.
With remote control systems and the connection for communication between irrigation meters and the control centre of the irrigation community, a more rational consumption of water resources in the area is promoted.
Digitalisation of irrigation reduces operating costs
Operating costs will also be reduced thanks to the photovoltaic solar park built last year with a similar investment. Pumping stations benefit from this cheaper energy, which also reduces CO2 emissions . In total, 1,492 irrigators in an area of 3,247 hectares benefit from this advance in the digitalisation of the countryside.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food – through the State Trading Company for Agricultural Infrastructure (Seiasa) – has carried out this work with an investment of almost €1.2M co-financed by the European Union from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) through the National Rural Development Programme (PNDR).
