Conference "Forging the Future of Agriculture and the Agri-Food Sector"

On May 8, Brussels will host the "Vision for Agriculture and Food" Conference at The Square. Under the theme "Shaping the Future of Agriculture and the Agri-Food Sector," the event will bring together key stakeholders from the European agri-food sector, civil society, rural communities, and policymakers. The conference aims to strengthen consensus around the vision for the future of EU agriculture and its roadmap, discuss key initiatives, and collaborate on the future direction of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) beyond 2027. Plenary sessions will be streamed online without registration. The "Vision for Food and Agriculture" initiative seeks to ensure the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector by ensuring a stable food supply in the EU. It is based on the report of the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture and consultations with the European Agriculture and Food Council. The event will take place at La Plaza, Mont des Arts, Brussels, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (CEST). Information session on aid for the preparation and implementation of innovative supra-regional projects by the AEI-AGRI Regional Government

The General Subdirectorate of Innovation and Digitalization of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is organizing the information session: "Aid for the preparation and execution of innovation projects of general interest by supra-regional operational groups of the European Innovation Partnership in agricultural productivity and sustainability (AEI-Agri), within the framework of the Strategic Plan for the CAP of Spain (PEPAC)", which will take place on Wednesday, May 7, at 11:00 a.m., in the Auditorium of the Palacio de Fomento (MAPA) behind closed doors and will be streamed on the PAC Network channel and the AKIS Advisors Platform YouTube channel. This event will feature key information on both Royal Decree 366/2023, of 16 May , which establishes the regulatory framework for granting cooperation subsidies for the preparation and execution of innovation projects of general interest carried out by supra-regional operational groups of the European Partnership for Innovation in Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (AEI-Agri) , and the 2025 call for these grants and their application forms . Predictive models to support decision-making in crop pest and disease control

Next Monday, April 29 , from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. , the webinar "Predictive models to support decision-making in pest and disease control in crops" will take place. This free online event will bring together leading experts in plant health and technologies applied to the agri-food sector. Organized by the Cajamar Experience Center , this digital event aims to demonstrate how the use of mathematical models and predictive tools can improve phytosanitary management on farms, helping to reduce the number of treatments, anticipate risks, and optimize available resources , in line with more sustainable and efficient agriculture. A program with industry leaders The event will be opened by Carlos Baixauli Soria , Director of the Cajamar Experience Center, who will also moderate the final panel discussion. The program includes three main presentations: 4:40 p.m. – Ángel Plata Sánchez , R&D Technician at Tragsa, will present how degree-day models can optimize insect pest management by adjusting treatments to the most effective times. 5:00 PM – Antonio Vicent Civera , Unit Head at IVIA, will discuss the use of epidemiological models for controlling fungal diseases in fruit trees, showing practical examples of their application in the field. 5:20 p.m. – Miguel Martínez Ramón , Digital Product Manager at Agrigenio Spain, will talk about Decision Support Systems (DSS) and their key role in present and future agriculture. The event will conclude with a panel discussion at 5:40 p.m. , where the three speakers will exchange views on the challenges and opportunities of digitalization in crop protection, moderated by Carlos Baixauli. EU Circular Talks It is an exchange project of the European Platform of Circular Economy Actors ( ECESP - European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform). Its objective is to encourage interaction and debate on circular economy topics on the platform. Stakeholders initiate topics themselves. These can take various forms: online events—workshops, seminars, debates, or Q&A sessions. Discussions then develop directly through the platform's communication channels. #EUCircularTalks uses all communication channels to inform the community and foster debate on the circular economy. The results of each EU Circular Talk are summarized and published on the ECESP platform. PigStun Project Webinar - Spain: Presentation of four alternatives to CO2 stunning

The PigStun* project aims to encourage EU pig slaughterhouses that use high concentrations of carbon dioxide to stun pigs to adopt more welfare-friendly systems by testing the technical specifications and feasibility of four promising alternatives. During this webinar, the following alternatives will be presented: argon reconditioning system, helium system, optimized CAS process, and improved electrical stunning system. A description of the system will be provided, along with the advantages and disadvantages of these alternatives and their impact on the economy, the environment, labor, and animal welfare. During the webinar there will be time for questions and discussion. PigStun is the beneficiary of a grant agreement signed with the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) under the Single Market Programme – Food Strand, aiming to improve pig welfare. Presentation of the main advances of the MAXI-CoberLEG Supra-autonomous Operational Group

National technical conference to present the results of the MAXI-CoberLEG Operational Group (Maximizing the benefits of cover crops through the selection of winter legume species and crop management), which will take place in person in Pontevedra and online through TEAMS. Presentation of the results of the EQUIGENOM Operational Group

On February 19th at 6:30 pm , the Madrid College of Veterinarians (C. del Maestro Ripoll, 8, 28006 Madrid) will host the presentation of the results of the EQUIGENOM Operative Group, a key project for the application of genomics in the improvement and selection of the Purebred Spanish Horse (PRE) and the equine sector in general . This is a project led by the National Association of Purebred Spanish Horse Breeders (ANCCE) based on the application of genomics in the equine sector. The presentation will feature prominent figures from the livestock sector, as well as experts in genomics and animal production, who will present the advances achieved and the impact that genomic selection will have on the future of the sector. The results to be presented are based on the development of an economical medium-density (MD) chip (array) that simultaneously allows for the analysis of parentage with SNPs, the diagnosis of hereditary diseases, the detection of economically important traits and genomic selection in the PRE. This advance will facilitate the decision-making of breeders regarding the selection of their breeding stock and represents a significant milestone in the genetic and genomic improvement of the Purebred Spanish Horse and the equine sector.
